Good Day SMS Parents & Guardians,

We hope you are enjoying the long weekend! Things are really starting to pick up at South this week with activities and events, so please take a few minutes to read through this week’s Weekly Round-Up. There is quite a bit happening, and we want to make sure you don’t miss any important information or upcoming opportunities.

📅 No School Tomorrow!
Just a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

The School Number is Functioning Again
Our main school phone number is back up and functioning! We apologize to anyone who experienced difficulty getting through to us over the past couple of weeks, and we appreciate your patience while the issue was being resolved. You can now reach South Middle School at our normal number: (417) 625-5250.

Picture Day
Ms. Alison has shared information regarding Picture Day over the past few weeks. For your convenience, you can find those details again below. Picture Day is this Thursday! Students will have their pictures taken during their Social Studies classes. Please take a moment to review the information below so your student is ready for Picture Day!

WIN Time
We are excited to officially introduce WIN: What I Need to Succeed at South Middle School. We piloted this system during fourth quarter last year and used what we learned to prepare for full implementation this year.

WIN provides dedicated time during the school day for students to receive targeted instruction, academic support, behavioral support, or enrichment based on their individual needs. Our teachers will work collaboratively and use student learning data to help determine what each student needs to succeed. Simply put, WIN is learning time for all.

Our first WIN cycle begins a week from Tuesday. As students begin hearing more about WIN at school, we wanted to make sure our families were included as well. Please take a look at the attached flyer for more information about what WIN will look like at South.

📖Tutoring
Don't forget, tutoring will be available starting this week.

A few important things to keep in mind regarding tutoring:

  • 📚 Tutoring is protected academic time.
  • ⏰ Please plan for timely pickup.
  • 🤝 We’re here to help! Don't hesitate to reach out!

School Dance
Just a reminder that our first dance is this Friday! We are looking forward to a fun night for our students with music, games, friends, and pleny of concessions.

As a reminder, students must be in good standing to attend school dances. Students who are not eligible to attend will be notified prior to Friday.

Additional details about the dance can be found below.

Looking forward to another great week as SMS!

Warm Regards,
Mr. Williams

  • 💻 Bring it daily – Chromebooks should come to school every day, just like any other essential school material.
  • ⚠️ Report issues promptly – If a student experiences a problem with their Chromebook (technical issue, damage, or malfunction), they should let a teacher know immediately. Our building tech specialist will address the issue so learning isn’t disrupted.
  • Use appropriately – Students are expected to use their Chromebooks for learning purposes only. They should follow school guidelines and avoid personalizing, altering, or misusing the device in any way.
