May 4th-9th, 2026

Building with Rainbow in the background

Good Day SMS Parents & Guardians,

This is a critically important week for our students and staff, so please make sure students are present and ready to do their best each day!

We have four more days of MAP testing this week. On Friday afternoon, we will celebrate all of the hard work from our teachers and students. We will be giving away prizes and gift cards and hosting our final social of the year, it will be a fun way to wrap up the week for our building!

MAP Testing Cont.
This week marks Week 2 of MAP testing. These assessments are an important way for us to measure student growth and ensure your child is receiving the support they need to succeed. We appreciate your help in making sure students are present, well-rested, and ready to do their best each morning. Our students have been working hard, and we are confident they will continue to show what they know!

School Lunch Hero Day
Last Friday was School Lunch Hero Day, and Kim and her team truly are heroes to so many of our students. They provide consistent, quality meals in a warm and welcoming environment. They create a space where students feel comfortable and cared for each day. We are so very grateful for our food service team and all that they do for our students and our building.

School Nurse Appreciation Day
Wednesday is School Nurse Appreciation Day, and we want to recognize Nurse Mel for the incredible work she does each day. She has one of the toughest jobs in the building, caring for the wide range of student needs that come through her office with consistency, care, and professionalism. We are incredibly grateful for the attention and compassion she shows our students every day. Thank you, Nurse Mel!

Teacher Appreciation Week
As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work our teachers do each day. The time, care, and effort they invest in students make a lasting impact that extends far beyond the classroom. The work they do matters more than we often realize and continues to influence students long after they leave our building. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to our students.

We are truly fortunate to have such a dedicated and passionate group of educators at South. If you have a moment this week, consider sending your child’s teacher(s) a quick thank-you message, it will mean more to them than you know. You might encourage your student(s) to do the same:)

Thank you!
Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you! When we call, you always answer the bell. A huge thank you to our PTO and families for all of the support, snacks, and generosity during MAP Testing & Teacher Appreciation Week. It means so much to our staff to feel so valued and supported, and it is truly wonderful to know we have such caring people behind our building. We are grateful for everything you do to support our students and staff!

Here's to another great week at SMS!

Warm Regards,
Mr. Williams
Principal

Chromebook Reminders

As you know, Chromebooks were checked out to students last week. During our class meetings, we also discussed expectations for care and responsible use. These devices are an essential learning tool in the classroom, and it is critical that students have them charged and ready to use every single day.

Here are a few important reminders:
  • 🔋 Charge nightly – Please remind your student to plug in their Chromebook each evening so it’s fully charged before school.
  • 💻 Bring it daily – Chromebooks should come to school every day, just like any other essential school material.
  • ⚠️ Report issues promptly – If a student experiences a problem with their Chromebook (technical issue, damage, or malfunction), they should let a teacher know immediately. Our building tech specialist will address the issue so learning isn’t disrupted.
  • Use appropriately – Students are expected to use their Chromebooks for learning purposes only. They should follow school guidelines and avoid personalizing, altering, or misusing the device in any way.

Thank you for helping your student build strong habits of responsibility and preparedness, skills that will support both their learning and independence.

Don't forget...STUDENT CHECK-OUT PROTOCOL

We are moving to a new student check-out system as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance safety and security in the building. As always, safety remains our top priority, and to help ensure the well-being of every student, anyone signing out a student during the school day must have a valid photo ID. This process will help us keep accurate records and make student check-outs more efficient while maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
