Good Day SMS Parents & Guardians,

Welcome back! I hope you and your family had a fun and restful Spring Break. As we return, we are entering a very busy and exciting time of the year, with important academic work ahead and many opportunities to celebrate our students in the coming months. This is a five-day learning week, and we are looking forward to getting back to work this week!

8th Grade Enrollment
This week, our 8th grade students will be meeting with JHS counselors to begin the enrollment process for their freshman year. This is an exciting step as they start planning for high school! If you or your student have any questions during this process, please feel free to reach out to one of our counselors.

RTI
In the coming weeks, we will begin rolling out a new RTI (Response to Intervention) process for both teachers and students. RTI is a system designed to provide targeted support and intervention based on individual student needs, ensuring every student receives the help they need to be successful. We are very excited about this work, as we have invested a great deal of time and effort into creating a system we believe will have a meaningful impact on student learning and overall success. More information will be shared in the coming weeks as we begin implementation.

What a great time to be a South Middle School Eagle! Looking forward to having everyone back in the building tomorrow.

Warm Regards,
Mr. Williams
Principal
South Middle School

Chromebook Reminders

As you know, Chromebooks were checked out to students last week. During our class meetings, we also discussed expectations for care and responsible use. These devices are an essential learning tool in the classroom, and it is critical that students have them charged and ready to use every single day.

Here are a few important reminders:
  • 🔋 Charge nightly – Please remind your student to plug in their Chromebook each evening so it’s fully charged before school.
  • 💻 Bring it daily – Chromebooks should come to school every day, just like any other essential school material.
  • ⚠️ Report issues promptly – If a student experiences a problem with their Chromebook (technical issue, damage, or malfunction), they should let a teacher know immediately. Our building tech specialist will address the issue so learning isn’t disrupted.
  • Use appropriately – Students are expected to use their Chromebooks for learning purposes only. They should follow school guidelines and avoid personalizing, altering, or misusing the device in any way.

Thank you for helping your student build strong habits of responsibility and preparedness, skills that will support both their learning and independence.

Don't forget...STUDENT CHECK-OUT PROTOCOL

We are moving to a new student check-out system as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance safety and security in the building. As always, safety remains our top priority, and to help ensure the well-being of every student, anyone signing out a student during the school day must have a valid photo ID. This process will help us keep accurate records and make student check-outs more efficient while maintaining a safe environment for everyone.

Canvas Observer

If you want the most accurate, real-time access to your student's grades, be sure to become a Parent Observer on Canvas.
